I was based at Camp Evans for nine months in 1968, ran the motor pool and pulled guard duty for the 11th GS Aviation Company, 1st Air Cavalry Division, Airmobile.
In November of '68 we abondoned Evans and re-located to III Corps at Phouc Vinh South Viet-Nam. We were told the 101st Airborne Division took Evans over after the 1st Cav. left it. I rotated back to the states in Feb. of '69 where I was discharged from the Army at Ft. Lewis Washington. I would like to hear from anyone based at Evans during the period I was there, or anyone that served there interested in contact! SP/5 Wayne Parrish

I was 2nd platoon leader, D company, 2/7 Cav from January 1968 to June 1968. We operated outside of Hue and went into Khe Sanh and the A Shau Valley. I started and ran the Cav R&R center at Camp Evans after being a plt ldr. When the batallion moved to Quan Loi, I was the Base Defense sector cmdr for the Cav. I stayed in the reserves when I rotated back to the world and retired as an O-6. Garry Owen

I was a staff sgt in the USAF, combat weatherman assigned to the 101st, stationed at Camp Evans from Oct, 1970 until Sept 1971. My partner and I lived in a hooch right under the Control Tower at Evans and often provided lodging (and a fush toilet plus hot shower for boonie pounders heading home or waiting on a ride for R& R. LOve the photos brings back many memories, beaucoup actually. Love to hear from anyone that was at Camp Evans. Thanks for posting these photos.

Great photos of the Cav. I'm looking forward to the release
of the movie, "WE Were Soldiers Once".
Cudos to Gen. Hal Moore and The real Hard Chargers of the
Ia Drang. Several of us from the Cav are members of Vietnam
Veterans of America, Chapter 249 in Cleveland, OH. WE would love to hear
from our old buddies.

Chuck, great pictures. That white sand was startling to behold.
Also impressing me was the lack of a berm around LZ Jack. Working
in such sand must have been interesting. Next time you're back
there, you'll probably need a fishing pole.
