Jay & I went through grade school together! He was a great friend and we spent alot of time together. His family owned the local grocery and we enjoyed treats from the store. We lived on a farm outside the village and he would come out and play basketball and enjoy the rural life. It was always a real treat to go home with him a lunch time in the village as they always had wonderful sandwich meats from the grocery. And I remember "Jay loved his onions"! Every meal!
A great friend was lost that day in 1967 and I think about him often. I saw his name at the Vietnam memorial when it was in Daytona Beach an it made me sad.

These pictures were in an album kept by Jay Shelby's mother, who passed away a few years ago. I am especially thankful to Dennis Blessing for sharing his stories of Jay. I would like to thank Bob Brandin for maintaining this site - I never would have seen the other pictures or met Dennis without LZ Bravo. And to Jay, you are always loved and never forgotten by family and friends.
